2024 Acura RDX Reviews, Prices, and Specs

In the realm of compact luxury SUVs, the 2024 Acura RDX stands out with its pragmatic approach amidst a field of formidable competitors. While luxury vehicles often prioritize indulgence, the RDX maintains a sensible dimension that resonates with discerning buyers. Introduced in its third generation for the 2019 model year, the RDX has garnered widespread acclaim and popularity. Consumer reviews consistently highlight its well-rounded attributes. While the base model offers impressive features, opting for the Technology package enhances the experience with perks such as perforated leather seating surfaces, an upgraded audio system, and parking sensors at both ends.

The standout update for the 2024 Acura RDX SUV is the inclusion of standard all-wheel drive (AWD) across all trim levels.

The 2024 Acura RDX kicks off at $44,050, featuring the base model with standard all-wheel drive.

2024 Acura RDXMSRP
RDX$44,050
RDX with Technology package$46,700
RDX A-Spec$49,700
RDX with Advance package$51,850
RDX A-Spec with Advance package$53,850

Each Acura RDX variant harnesses the power of a 272-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, mated with a 10-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, known as “SH-AWD” in Acura’s terminology. In our testing of the A-Spec version, it accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in 6.2 seconds, placing it in the middle of the pack among compact luxury SUVs. The RDX exhibits responsive throttle at lower speeds, providing sufficient acceleration for most driving situations. However, the transmission could be more prompt in downshifting, especially when utilizing the paddle shifters mounted on the steering wheel. While the turbocharged engine emits a high-pitched roar reminiscent of the NSX during aggressive acceleration, much of this noise is artificially enhanced and piped into the cabin through the audio system’s speakers. Equipped with large 20-inch wheels and optional adaptive dampers for ride quality adjustment, our test vehicle managed to maintain a comfortable cabin ambiance, even on rougher roads, without excessive noise or harshness. The torque-vectoring SH-AWD system contributes to swift changes in direction, complemented by precise steering feedback. Although the RDX exhibits minimal body lean, particularly during spirited driving, the brake pedal’s inconsistent firmness and responsiveness detract slightly from the overall driving experience.

Each 2024 Acura RDX attains an EPA-estimated 23 combined mpg. Non-A-Spec variants achieve 21 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway, whereas A-Spec models exhibit a slightly lower highway efficiency by one mile per gallon. Acura advises utilizing premium 91-octane gasoline for optimal performance.

In contrast, the 275-horsepower Lexus NX 350 achieves 25 combined mpg, while the base Genesis GV70 achieves 24 combined mpg.

While the 2024 RDX may not boast the opulence of a Mercedes-Benz GLC SUV, it still offers top-notch materials and superb craftsmanship. Standard ambient LED lighting and heated front seats enhance the upscale feel of the interior.

With a raised driving position and excellent outward visibility, the RDX provides a comfortable driving experience, supported by ample space throughout the cabin.

Rear legroom measures a respectable 38 inches, comparable to other vehicles in its class. Cargo capacity is also impressive, with 29.5 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats, expanding to 58.9 cubic feet when the seats are folded down, making it competitive with its peers.

However, the touchpad located in the center console for controlling the infotainment system may present a challenge for some users.

Resembling a laptop computer’s trackpad, it requires a bit of acclimatization, although many users may prefer interacting with the touchscreen interface instead.

If contemplating the purchase of a luxury SUV within this category, the Acura RDX stands out as a compelling option. Beyond its practicality and performance, the RDX exudes a distinct visual appeal, drawing attention with its sleek lines and stylish design elements.

Unlike some competitors with more ostentatious features, the RDX maintains a sense of understated elegance, making it a refined choice for those who appreciate sophistication without excessive flair.

Furthermore, Acura offers a diverse range of color options, including the eye-catching Apex Blue Pearl and Majestic Black Pearl, adding a touch of individuality to each RDX on the road.

Overall, the Acura RDX not only impresses with its aesthetic appeal but also delivers on its promise of luxury, making it a standout contender in the highly competitive landscape of compact luxury SUVs.

The current iteration of the Acura RDX has garnered prestigious safety accolades, including the esteemed Top Safety Pick+ recognition from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and a maximum 5-Star overall rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Equipped with a robust suite of standard safety features, such as forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, as well as blind-spot monitoring, the RDX prioritizes driver and passenger safety on the road. These commendable safety credentials underscore the Acura RDX’s commitment to providing peace of mind and protection for occupants, reinforcing its reputation as a dependable and secure choice in the luxury SUV segment.
