Overview
The 2024 Chevrolet Traverse, a previous-generation midsize SUV, stands amidst a sea of newer arrivals. Despite the debut of a new-generation Traverse this year, Chevrolet opted to continue offering the outgoing model alongside it, now designated as the Limited edition. This limited availability suggests its presence for only a short duration. Nevertheless, our familiarity with the Traverse Limited predates this additional label. Over the years, we’ve admired its spaciousness, smooth ride, quiet interior, and robust V6 engine—a sentiment echoed by many owner reviews. Introduced in 2018, this generation has aged six years, a considerable span in today’s automotive landscape, particularly in terms of technology. However, for those seeking a proven performer over the latest trends, the Traverse Limited remains a solid choice, excelling in the fundamentals.
What’s New for 2024?
The 2024 Traverse marks the arrival of a fresh generation, showcasing a rugged aesthetic and introducing the Z71 off-road variant. This Z71 model boasts a slightly elevated suspension, a twin-clutch all-wheel drive system, all-terrain tires, and distinctive 18-inch wheels. Taking the place of the Premier and High Country models, the RS trim elevates the lineup with its sporty demeanor, adorned with 22-inch wheels, a more athletic suspension setup, and sleek black exterior accents. Retaining the base LS and mid-range LT trims, all Traverse models are equipped with the same 315-hp 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Anticipated for an early 2024 release, the new Traverse promises an enticing blend of performance and style.
2024 Chevrolet Traverse Models and Pricing
Beginning at $37,600, the 2024 Chevrolet Traverse kicks off with the LS trim. Stepping up, the mid-range LT variant begins at $40,000, while the adventure-ready Z71 starts at $46,400. For those seeking a sportier flair, the RS model is available from $54,200. Adding all-wheel drive incurs an additional $2,000 across all trims except for the Z71, where it comes standard.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

Each Traverse variant is powered by a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. While all-wheel drive is available as an option, the standard configuration drives power to the front wheels. Equipped with the optional towing package, the Traverse boasts a towing capacity of up to 5000 pounds. For enhanced off-road capability, the Z71 trim stands out with its twin-clutch all-wheel drive system, specialized suspension damping, all-terrain tires, and terrain-specific driving modes. Stay tuned for our driving impressions once we get the chance to test drive the 2024 Traverse.
Fuel Economy
Fuel economy estimates for the 2024 Traverse are still pending release from the EPA. However, we anticipate seeing improvements over its V-6 predecessor in this regard. Once available, we’ll be conducting our own 75-mph highway fuel economy test to provide real-world MPG data. Stay tuned for updates on this front.
Roomy Interior

Few midsize 3-row SUVs can match the Traverse’s ability to keep rear passengers comfortable throughout the journey. This trend is expected to continue with the third generation, ensuring ample space for adults in the rearmost seats without inducing discomfort.

The generosity extends throughout the cabin, with abundant room for occupants in the first and second rows. While the base trim accommodates eight passengers, higher trims opt for a 7-seater configuration with captain’s chairs in the second row.

Additionally, the RS variant boasts standard power-folding third-row seats, with the option available in other trim levels. For those craving an expansive view, a dual-pane panoramic sunroof is also on offer.

Chevrolet touts the new Traverse’s best-in-class cargo capacity of 98 cubic feet, surpassing the Toyota Grand Highlander’s maximum by a slim margin at 97.5 cubic feet.
Imposing Exterior
In continuing with its proven platform, the latest iteration of the Traverse maintains its well-established dimensions, ensuring ample space for passengers and cargo, a hallmark of its appeal in the competitive midsize SUV market.

Despite its familiarity, this approach underscores Chevrolet’s commitment to providing a spacious and versatile vehicle that meets the needs of modern families. The redesigned front end, characterized by its sharp lines and contemporary styling cues, not only aligns with the aesthetic direction of other Chevy models but also injects a fresh identity into the Traverse lineup.

Meanwhile, the subtle refinements to the rear end, with its slightly squarer profile, serve to enhance the SUV’s practicality and functionality, further solidifying its position as a compelling choice in its segment.

Overall, while the platform may be familiar, the updates to the exterior design demonstrate Chevrolet’s dedication to evolving the Traverse to meet the evolving demands and preferences of today’s consumers, ensuring it remains a competitive option in the midsize SUV market.
Safety Ratings
The 2023 Traverse earned a respectable four out of five stars overall from the NHTSA for front-wheel-drive models and five stars for AWD variants, though some rivals scored higher. The new Traverse is anticipated to improve its safety features, with standard driver assistance including forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
