Despite its challenges in standing out, the Equinox remains a pragmatic option with its affordable pricing, well-proportioned dimensions, and generous array of standard features, offering solid value for budget-conscious consumers.

The 2024 Chevy Equinox receives several understated enhancements, notably with the inclusion of the Confidence & Convenience Package as standard on the LT trim. This package combines various sought-after features such as blind-spot monitoring, remote start, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, and a power liftgate. The turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine powering the Equinox falls short in delivering spirited performance, often feeling underpowered and strained. Generating 175 horsepower, it serves as the sole engine option for this model. When coupled with the optional all-wheel-drive system (standard front-wheel drive), acceleration to highway speeds requires a heavy foot due to the added weight. Despite the engine’s shortcomings, the six-speed automatic transmission operates smoothly, albeit being hesitant to downshift for extra power, prioritizing fuel efficiency instead. During testing, a recent Equinox RS trim with all-wheel drive clocked an 8.0-second sprint to 60 mph. While the Equinox offers agreeable driving dynamics and precise steering, its ride quality can be harsh, especially with the optional 19-inch wheels (standard 17-inch). On rougher road surfaces, occupants may experience some discomfort as vibrations transmit into the cabin. Despite these drawbacks, the Equinox boasts a towing capacity of up to 3500 pounds.

While the interior of the Chevy Equinox is satisfactory, it tends towards the side of blandness. Though functional, it lacks the upscale appeal and premium materials found in many of its contemporary competitors within the same price range.

One notable highlight, however, is the generous rear-seat legroom, which provides ample space for occupants. The rear seating area is particularly accommodating for children and stands in line with the best offerings in its segment.

In terms of cargo space, the Equinox delivers a decent performance, but falls short of being exceptional. With 29.9 cubic feet of room behind the rear seats, it provides adequate storage capacity for everyday needs.

The exterior design of the compact SUV speaks volumes about its overall character, embodying a sense of adequacy rather than making a bold statement. The Equinox’s exterior aesthetic falls into the category of “just fine,” a sentiment that seems to extend across various aspects of the vehicle. While not particularly remarkable, it also doesn’t disappoint, presenting a design that is inoffensive and generally pleasing to the eye.
