Overview
The 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe, a formidable 3-row full-size SUV, embodies both ruggedness and refinement, making it suitable for both demanding tasks and daily commutes. Its spacious interior accommodates between seven and nine passengers across three rows of seats, ensuring ample room for occupants and cargo alike. For those requiring even greater cargo capacity, the Chevrolet Suburban offers a larger alternative. Under the hood, the Tahoe offers a choice of potent V8 engines or a rare and impressive 6-cylinder turbodiesel, delivering robust performance and exceptional towing capabilities. Built on a sturdy truck-based chassis, the Tahoe excels in towing and off-road adventures while providing a comfortable ride. Moreover, it offers the option of GM’s advanced Super Cruise hands-free driving system, enhancing its appeal for modern drivers.
What’s New for 2024?
The Chevrolet Tahoe remains relatively unchanged for the 2024 model year following its comprehensive redesign in 2021. However, there are no significant updates anticipated until the potential introduction of a refresh for the 2025 model year.
2024 Chevrolet Tahoe Models and Pricing
Starting at $56,200, the 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe offers the base LS model with rear-wheel drive, with four-wheel drive available for an additional $3,000 or included as standard on the Z71 variant. While the LS model comes adequately equipped, upgrading to at least the LT trim is recommended for added features like a hands-free power tailgate and improved interior technology. On the higher end, the fully loaded Tahoe High Country can surpass $80,000, offering a luxury SUV experience.
2024 Chevrolet Tahoe | MSRP |
Tahoe LS | $56,200 |
Tahoe LT | $61,700 |
Tahoe RST | $64,300 |
Tahoe Z71 | $66,300 |
Tahoe Premier | $69,600 |
Tahoe High Country | $76,400 |
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
Throughout its generations, the Tahoe has been propelled by V-8 engines, a tradition that persists in the latest iteration. Alongside the standard 355-hp 5.3-liter and optional 420-hp 6.2-liter engines, the lineup now includes a 3.0-liter diesel six-cylinder option. Despite its lower horsepower, the diesel engine matches the torque output of the larger V-8, boasting 460 pound-feet. Paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, every Tahoe variant offers either rear- or all-wheel drive configurations. During our assessment of the off-road-focused Z71 model equipped with the standard V-8, we noted satisfactory acceleration, a responsive brake pedal, and remarkably quiet cabin ambiance at highway speeds. Additionally, the Z71 package introduces features like air springs for adjustable ride height and adaptive dampers, with the latter standard on the Premier and High Country trims. For enhanced visual appeal, the High Country and RST models ride on stylish 22-inch wheels.
Fuel Economy
The Chevy Tahoe, powered by its standard 5.3-liter V8 engine, may not match the fuel efficiency of competitors like the Ford Expedition, Toyota Sequoia, and Jeep Wagoneer, which boast 6-cylinder powertrains. This engine delivers 17 mpg combined in mixed city/highway driving, whether in rear-wheel drive (RWD) or 4-wheel drive (4WD) configuration. Opting for the 6.2-liter V8 reduces this figure slightly to 16 mpg combined. However, the Tahoe offers a compelling alternative with its available 6-cylinder diesel engine, achieving an impressive 24 mpg combined with RWD, surpassing competitors and even outperforming the Sequoia by two mpg. With 4WD and the diesel engine, the Tahoe still maintains commendable efficiency at 22 mpg combined. In contrast, the Nissan Armada lags behind with 16 mpg in RWD and 15 mpg in 4WD configurations. Spacious Interior
Every 2024 Chevy Tahoe variant boasts three rows of seats, typically accommodating either eight passengers with a second-row bench or seven with captain’s chairs. Remarkably, the Tahoe is among the few vehicles, aside from transportation vans, capable of seating nine individuals, achieved through a front bench seat configuration exclusive to the base LS trim.
Premier and High Country models exclusively offer the 7-passenger setup, featuring a power-adjustable center console with 10 inches of movement, providing secure storage, cup holders, and a sliding armrest. Additionally, all models, except the LS, feature a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.2-inch central touchscreen, while the LS model integrates an 8-inch center touchscreen.
Handsome Exterior
Measuring at 17.5 feet long, the 2024 Tahoe commands a similar footprint to the Ford Expedition, offering substantial space that appeals to many. Despite its size, the Tahoe maintains a balanced aesthetic, exuding an air of authority without tipping into ostentation.
Even the upscale High Country variants, adorned with chrome accents, maintain a rugged elegance suitable for both urban streets and work sites. The Tahoe Z71 models, with their distinctive honeycomb grille, robust all-terrain tires, skid plate, and red recovery hooks, project an aura of toughness, cementing their presence on any terrain.
Safety
The current iteration of the Chevrolet Tahoe has yet to undergo testing by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). However, it has attained a commendable “4-Star” rating out of five from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
