Overview
The 2024 Ford Edge distinguishes itself within the midsize SUV segment by prioritizing comfort and driver engagement for a smaller audience. With a starting price of $38,365, it offers ample space for up to five occupants, catering to those who value roominess over additional seating capacity. Despite the trend towards larger SUVs with three rows, the Edge’s focus on space for a smaller group has resonated positively with consumers, as evidenced by overwhelmingly positive reviews. Beyond its spacious interior, the Edge stands out for its remarkable driving dynamics, a hallmark of Ford vehicles. Renowned for seamlessly blending a smooth ride with engaging handling, the Edge delivers a driving experience that few in its class can match.
What’s New for 2024?
As previously noted, the 2024 Edge sees minimal updates, yet there’s speculation that this could mark its final year in its current form. Introduced in 2015, the Edge shares a similar age with competitors like the Nissan Murano, facing off against newer rivals in the segment. Initially anticipated to conclude production last year, Ford has opted to extend its lifespan for another model year, albeit amidst a landscape of increasingly modern alternatives.
2024 Ford Edge Models and Pricing
The 2024 Ford Edge kicks off at a base price of $38,365, offering the SE trim, which includes standard features like all-wheel drive and blind-spot monitoring.

Edge SE | $38,365 |

Edge ST-Line | $43,620 |
Edge Titanium | $43,720 |
Edge ST | $47,205 |
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The base turbocharged four-cylinder engine churns out 250 horsepower, offering adequate power for most drivers despite its leisurely acceleration. However, if you crave a more spirited performance akin to that of a Volkswagen Golf GTI or similar zippy cars, opt for the Edge ST. This variant boasts a robust 335-hp twin-turbo 2.7-liter V-6 engine and rolls on 21-inch wheels shod with summer tires. While it may not match the agility of our benchmark crossover for handling, the Edge ST still delivers a reasonably enjoyable driving experience with stable cornering. Its steering, though not overly communicative, exhibits nicely weighted feel, and the ride remains comfortable even on less-than-perfect road surfaces.
Fuel Economy
The 2.0-liter engine found in the 2024 Edge achieves a combined fuel economy rating of 23 mpg (21 mpg city, 28 mpg highway). Meanwhile, the V6-powered ST variant returns 21 mpg combined (19 mpg city, 25 mpg highway). Notably, both engines are compatible with regular gasoline. For context, the Honda Passport achieves 21 mpg combined (19 mpg city, 24 mpg highway).
Roomy Interior
Inside the Edge, families with a couple of children will discover ample space for both passengers and cargo, whether it’s groceries for the week or luggage for a trip.
Numerous small storage compartments are scattered throughout the cabin, along with a sizable cubby in the center console beneath the armrest.
Rear legroom measures 40.6 inches, surpassing that of the Honda Passport by an inch, while cargo volume behind the rear seats boasts an impressive 39.2 cubic feet, expanding to a generous 73.4 cubic feet when the seats are folded down.
In comparison, the Passport offers 41.2 to 77.7 cubic feet of cargo space. While the front seats are comfortable, the rear seats are somewhat less cushioned. Additionally, the cabin is generally quiet, but the wide front and rear pillars obstruct outward visibility, making the standard blind-spot monitoring system a valuable feature.
Easy-Going Exterior
Despite the relentless passage of time, Ford has successfully maintained the Edge’s contemporary appearance. While many vehicles are transitioning to boxier designs, the Edge has managed to retain its curved lines remarkably well.
This longevity is commendable, and one of the standout features we appreciate about the Edge is its avoidance of resembling a police car, a common association with the Explorer model.
3-Year/36,000-Mile Warranty
Ford offers a standard new-vehicle warranty lasting three years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. Powertrains are covered for five years or 60,000 miles, which includes roadside assistance—a standard offering consistent with most mainstream manufacturers.
Safety Ratings
The Edge has achieved the distinction of being named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the second-highest accolade awarded by the institute. Additionally, it received the highest 5-Star overall score from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Standard safety features include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance, and blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert.
