What’s New for 2024?
For 2024, GMC introduces a completely redesigned Acadia, aligning it with the mechanically akin Chevy Traverse. Additionally, new features such as optional Super Cruise technology and a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine boasting 328 horsepower further enhance its appeal.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance
Each Acadia variant is propelled by a turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-four engine, churning out 328 horsepower and 326 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. While front-wheel drive comes standard, all-wheel drive is an optional upgrade on most trims (standard on the AT4). This robust powertrain outperforms the previous model’s optional 310-hp 3.6-liter V-6, which boasted a leisurely 0-60 mph time of 6.1 seconds in previous tests. Derived from the same platform as the Chevy Traverse, the new Acadia receives an additional 13 horsepower compared to its Chevrolet counterpart. Equipped with GMC’s Super Cruise technology, available on the Elevation, Premium AT4, and Denali trims, drivers can enjoy hands-free driving assistance akin to luxury models like the Cadillac Escalade and electric Lyriq. Additionally, the AT4 trim level offers off-road prowess with features such as the Active Torque Control all-wheel-drive system, specialized suspension tuning for rugged terrains, and protective skid plates, along with Terrain drive mode and hill descent control.
Fuel Economy
The current GMC Acadia achieves up to 25 combined mpg with its standard 4-cylinder engine, while the optional V6 delivers 22 mpg. With the introduction of the new engine, we anticipate the fuel economy rating to fall somewhere in between these figures.
Roomy Interior
The latest iteration of the GMC Acadia marks a departure from its predecessor’s downsized stature, now matching the size of larger GM counterparts like the Chevy Traverse and Buick Enclave. This expansion results in a significantly more spacious 3-row interior capable of accommodating up to eight passengers.
Notably, the new Acadia boasts substantial increases in cargo space, with 24% more maximum cargo capacity, 36% more room behind the second row, and an impressive 79% increase in cargo room behind the third row.
These enhancements position the Acadia as a highly versatile and family-friendly vehicle, reminiscent of a minivan in terms of interior accommodation.
Equipped with optional second-row captain’s chairs and a Smart Slide feature facilitating access to the third row, the Acadia prioritizes passenger comfort and convenience.
Its interior design aligns with GMC’s signature blend of ruggedness and premium quality, complemented by a range of standard and optional tech features including a 15-inch central touchscreen, an 11-inch digital gauge cluster, panoramic sunroof options, laser-etched wood trim, leather seats, and a premium Bose audio system with 16 speakers.
Rugged Exterior
The redesigned GMC Acadia presents a larger and more imposing presence, echoing the sophisticated design cues of its full-size counterpart, the Yukon.
Its robust and boxy silhouette exudes confidence, with its aesthetic nuances varying across different trim levels.
For instance, the AT4 trim features bold dark accents, striking red recovery hooks, a raised ride height, and rugged all-terrain tires, conveying a rugged and adventurous persona.
On the other hand, the upscale Denali model showcases elegant Galvano Silver accents and offers optional 22-inch wheels, adding a touch of refinement and luxury to its appearance.
Safety
The GMC Acadia comes equipped with a comprehensive array of standard safety features, encompassing forward and reverse automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition, and additional advanced driver-assistance systems. Notably, the remarkable Super Cruise hands-free highway driving system is available across all trim levels except for the base model, providing enhanced convenience and safety during highway journeys.
